Demonstration Ahead! 4 Dec/ WTO

It's quite obvious that I am very lazy in writing Blog. Well, I don't know how many people will read this. (what's the point of writing if no one reads?) but on the other hand, if I write nothing new I am damn sure no one will read my blog.

Honestly I am also very lazy in keeping up with the news. It's partly because news in mainstream media are so full of politicians/ business propaganda crap. Today I saw that our 'always-so-smart' HK government have some big grand construction project (again!) building a new government headquater in the Tamar site, which, involve some reclamation project (again!) on ever-shrinking Victoria Harbour. I definitely think the Harbour Protection Unit should employ some radical method to protest, such as, 'human chain' on the reclamation site. I am happy to be part of it.

Our slicky (hair?) Chief Executive recently put in quite a lot of effort to polish his policy reform proposal. I am quite tired of his bullshit & don't bother to point out bits by bits that there's no real reform in his proposal. I am very happy that there'll be a demontration on 4 Dec. Of coz there would be a bigger demonstration on WTO later.

Once I told some of my friends that I am going to the WTO demonstration. They don't quite understand why & say, isn't that we already have free trade around the world? I know international trade is not as 'free' as they think, but it would take long time to explain and probably they would not be convinced anyway. Politics is such a weird thing. Most people think it is none of their concern. For those who do care about it, they are so passionate about it that they often don't let others hold a different view point.

Oxfam has good publication about WTO: www.oxfam.org.hk
I was reading an oxfam survey that Hong Kong public knows little about WTO. The report says it's government's responsibilities to educate the public & the government is not doing its job. My view is the opposite. It's natural that HK government fail to inform the public about WTO. The current HK government, (despite repeat denial) openly representing the interest of big business group, they only 'educate' the public with what the government want them to believe--WTO=free trade, we can buy more cheap things (......) Does the HK government want the public to know that WTO is a club for the rich & crushing the poor by imposing unfair trade rules? Hell no! It's better if the public remains as ignorant as it can be & stay away from the protest. A bad government wants its people to be stupid.

This is the problem with a lot of government in the world.

Is there any of you going to the 4 Dec or later WTO demonstration? Let me know.
